Worship & Creative Arts
“Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King. Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp. For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation.” Psalm 149:1-4
Everything we do should be an act of worship
At the heart of our Worship and Creative Arts Ministry are the two commandments that Jesus gave to sum up the Ten Commandments, namely, to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and to love our neighbour as ourselves. Our foremost consideration is to give pleasure and glory to the One who is the object of our worship.
AW Tozer's book Worship is sub-titled The reason we were created. For generations a veil separated God from His people in the temple, but through the cross, Jesus tore the veil in two and invites us into the Holy of Holies where we are able to encounter the living God. The role of our Creative Arts Team is to lead the congregation into this place.
Participatory worship
We believe that every person who loves God can enter this place freely and experience the presence of God. The primary role of the Worship and Creative Arts Ministry is to nurture, promote, and enliven participatory congregational praise and worship. This is experienced through a variety of forms – the use of creative liturgy, songs of praise and worship, the proclamation of scripture, visual arts, drama, multi-media presentations, the worship environment itself and the sermon each have a role to play in creating a vibrant and participatory worship experience.
Discipleship and community building
Apart from leading the congregation into an experience of worship, the secondary goal of our Worship and Creative Arts Ministry is to develop disciples of Jesus Christ. The ministry team constitutes a small group in which community is promoted, spiritual growth is nurtured and outreach to the wider community is encouraged. Through intentional discipleship, the Holy Spirit has the opportunity to become more fully awakened in the lives of the individuals participating in the ministry as well as in the life of the congregation and the surrounding community. As has been said, “what we sing, we believe; what we believe, we become.”
Ministry without walls
The Worship and Creative Arts Ministry must reach beyond the walls of the church to the community that surrounds us. The worship and creative arts ministry serves as a bridge between the church and the world, connecting the deep needs of the world with the church. We are called and empowered to be agents of God’s grace and bearers of the Gospel to the world. This is accomplished through live events that seek to engage the world through the medium of arts, drama and music.
