Ladies’ Fellowship

Throughout the Bible, we read of women helping, caring and loving others. This is the role of the Ladies’ Fellowship at Willows. The Ladies’ Fellowship is known for being a helping hand and for offering services to the church and to others. Our trademark is love. We share love with one another and with others in reaching out to homes and other organisations.

Many people have the wrong idea about the Ladies’ Fellowship; we’re not a bunch of old ladies that sit and knit or bake at our meetings. We are a group of caring and unique individuals that are full of life, energy and love for Christ and want to love one another, just as He asks us to, using our time and gifts to show support where we can.

Bible School

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Forty men wrote the Bible over a period that spanned 1,600 years. They came from three different continents and wrote in three different languages. Most of the writers were not alive at the same time. Despite this, there is one continuing story flowing through its pages. The Bible is God’s story and His letter to the world that gives us guidance on every aspect of life. The Bible enables us to find the true source of love, peace and eternal life. As a church, we are committed to learning more about the Word of God. Bible school fills this requirement.

Evergreens

“There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under Heaven.” Eccl 3:1

The senior members at Willows have seen many seasons come and go, continuing forward confidently in the knowledge that the steadfast love of Father God will remain their faithful companion throughout. These men and women, among them many married couples, are for the most part retired. Many are still very active in various areas of life, with some still running businesses. This group has bound themselves together in a social fellowship known as “Evergreens”.

A Disciple's PathADisciplesPath 350x219

  • The 40-day devotional booklet A Disciple’s Path for the Lenten Journey will be available at a cost of R30. If you cannot afford this, please contact us for assistance.
  • If you would like to participate, either sign up at the table in the Foyer after the service or simply send an e-mail to info@willows.org.za with the subject line “A Disciple’s Path” so we can accommodate you.
  • Though we have already had the books printed, we should be able to get you a book even if you did not sign up earlier.

What is Lent?

Lent is the forty day period leading up to the Passion of Christ and is celebrated by many believers around the world. The Lenten season emphasizes one's need to cultivate the inner life through various spiritual disciplines.

Originally, in the first century, Lent was observed as a forty hour period, in keeping with the forty hours Jesus's body was in the tomb. This Lenten watch ended with an Easter Service at 3:00 a.m. In the third century, the forty hours evolved into a six day extension. These six days were known as Holy Week. Then, the six days grew into 36 days (36 being the tithe or a tenth of the 365 days of the year). Finally, during the reign of Charlemagne in the 8th century, four days were added to the 36, to create our current celebration of Lent. The added days were Ash Wednesday, which begins the Lenten season, and the three following days, running up to the First Sunday in Lent.

Lent began as a way for believers to remind themselves to repent of their sins in a manner similar to how people in the Old Testament repented in sackcloth, ashes, and fasting (see Esther 4:1-3; Jeremiah 6:26; Daniel 9:3; Matthew 11:21). It is therefore a time for self examination, penitence and denial, embracing such spiritual disciplines as prayer, meditation on Scripture and fasting.

The essential purpose of a Lenten discipline is to strip away those things which clutter one's life or impede one from being in relationship with God.  It is also a time for us to experience and reflect on the sufferings of Jesus in light of our own sin and unrighteousness. It is a time of spiritual renewal and growth.

We are inviting you to join us in this Lenten journey toward the cross. Beginning on Ash Wednesday (this year on 14 February), we will be starting a 40-day devotional journey entitled A Disciple’s Path. Such a journey, if we pursue it diligently, has the power to transform our lives radically as God’s people.

Should you wish to participate in this journey with us, you will be asked to commit to three key disciplines that form part of the journey:

  1. To set aside 30 minutes every day to reflect and meditate upon the devotional material prepared for that day.
  2. We really encourage you to join a small group ( if you are not already part of a Life Group) where you can share around what you have learned and experienced in your own journey each week.
  3. If possible, to try and attend all our Sunday services during your 40 day journey as this will set the tone for what we will be working through each week.

More information on how you can participate will be provided over the next few weeks.

We are trusting the Lord for a wonderful time of spiritual growth and renewal in our lives.

Looking forward to journeying with you!

God Bless,

Pastor G
